Writing a Research Paper for Your Science Fair Project.
Keeping track of the sources used for your research is very important when completing a science fair project bibliography. The Modern Language Association (MLA) format is one common format used for bibliographies for science fair projects.
For a science fair project, a reference citation (also known as author-date citation) is an accepted way to reference information you copy. Citation referencing is easy. Simply put the author's last name, the year of publication, and page number (if needed) in parentheses after the information you copy.

Choosing Reliable Sources. In order to write a research paper, you first need to find out information about your topic. This is called doing research. You can't get around it! Make sure sources that you cite in a research paper are reliable. To be reliable means that you can trust the information (duh).
Your list of works cited should begin at the end of the paper on a new page with the centered title, References. Alphabetize the entries in your list by the author's last name, using the letter-by-letter system (ignore spaces and other punctuation.) Only the initials of the first and middle names are given.
TITLE PAGE 1. The title page can be a declarative statement or a question that cannot be answered yes or no. 2. It should be short and concise but clearly indicate what the project is about. 3. Place your title in the middle of the page, centered on the page.
If you are developing your survey for a science fair project, people will probably be more willing to help if you clearly state your intentions. At the top of your survey, write a brief statement explaining why you are collecting the information and reassure each respondent that the information is entirely anonymous.
Writing the results for a science fair project report can feel challenging, but the scientific method gives science students a format to follow. Excellent results sections include a summary of the experiment, address the hypothesis, analyze the experiment, and make suggestions for further study.
Title Page SAMPLE SCIENCE FAIR NOTEBOOK (10 words or fewer for your project title) These students are all looking at a winning project notebook! A picture that in some way represents your project, placed on the front of your notebook, is always a nice touch, but is not absolutely necessary.
How Do You Write a Project Outline? To create a project outline, identify the major tasks needed to accomplish the project, and break down the smaller tasks required to complete the larger ones. For clarity, list the major milestones with Roman numerals and the subtasks with capital letters.
A good report is organized, easy to read and free from unrelated material. If you already have guidelines set forth by a science fair committee or an instructor, be sure to follow them. Otherwise, here is a format that you may use to write a science project report.
Reference List This is a list showing where you obtained all of your research material. There is a specific format you are to follow when writing your bibliography; it will be described on the handout, “Give Credit Where It’s Due”, but you may use your Science notebook or loose leaf paper placed in your Science Fair folder to record information from your sources.
